Position Summary

We are a boutique HR and Employment Law Consulting Firm. We have significant expertise in the work we do yet we require a business savvy individual with expertise in taking a business to the next level in order to scale up. We are looking for an individual who operates at a strategic level but is capable and willing to “get their hands dirty” in the details to ensure the job gets done well.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting into the CEO, the VP Operations brings strategic and tactical operating and financial expertise, business acumen and leadership to the Company. The VP Operations will be intimately involved in the execution of the business plan and as a hands-on leader, with direct reports, they will work closely with members of the Company’s staff to ensure the operations is running effectively in the context of the business plan.

Key Outcomes:

  1. Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, working closely with Practice Leaders on all operational and financial matters.
  2. Responsible for ensuring an optimal financial and operational infrastructure is in place for the execution of the strategic business plan.
  3. Leverage financial information to drive to critical business decisions - ensure integration of the financial function into the delivery of our services.
  4. Responsible for refining metrics and mechanisms that offer deeper insight into the various operational impacts on our business associated with our service delivery. 
  5. Responsible for accounting/finance, operations, and information technology function and leading and developing a high performing team in alignment with our vision and values.

Operations:

  • Develop and implement new business process flows that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the business with a keen eye on ensuring the business continues to be customer-focused
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators, and targets, for each functional area
  • Develop and implement operational best practices across the entire organization
  • Review and assess existing policies and procedures; make recommendations and implement changes to improve people, process and technology
  • Develop and execute business models for use in future growth

Financial:

  • Oversee the delivery of timely financial information, through monthly financial statements, annual budgets and forecasting, developing key performance indicators (KPI’s) and trends in operating results, ad-hoc financial analysis and other reports
  • Ensure financial records and systems are maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to help guide the business.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal financial controls.

Leadership:

  • Ensure strong alignment on a daily basis with our overall business strategy through effective communication and engagement with all team members
  • A role model, demonstrating alignment with Company values and supporting our culture 
  • Through performance management, drive accountability with all functions across the Company
  • Responsible for building, managing and developing a high performing team. 

Strategic Planning:

  • Work effectively with the Senior Leadership Team in developing and executing on the company strategy
  • Drive the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs and systems
  • Identify business opportunities for growth including acquisitions, partnerships and other strategic initiatives 
  • Provide timely recommendations and counsel on strategic and tactical operational and financial matters

Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • CPA an asset
  • Undergraduate/Graduate degree in Commerce or related discipline
  • A values-based individual with strong capability in execution in a dynamic people centric business.
  • Possesses a passion for customer service excellence.
  • Entrepreneurial-minded, operations-focused individual with multiple years of experience consulting and advising at the executive level in a variety of successful organizations.
  • Seasoned operations and financial leader who brings a record of 10+ years of top performance, implementing strategic projects, developing talent and producing high-performance teams, with complementary operations experience and financial responsibilities.
